Drive+ is a Level 2 home EV charging station made by ChargePoint that pairs with SPAN Panels and Eaton Smart Panels with SPAN Energy Intelligence for a dynamic and flexible charging experience. While new EVs generally come with a Level 1 charger (a cord or charging system that plugs into a standard home electrical outlet), a Level 2 home charger requires a dedicated 208-240 volt circuit and charges at significantly higher speeds. Level 1 charging typically delivers up to 6 miles of range per hour of charging to your vehicle.

Drive+ is a high-powered Level 2 EV charger, delivering up to 44 miles of range per hour of charging from the convenience of home.* Paired with the intelligence of SPAN Panel, Drive+ is able to adjust charging speed dynamically using the maximum power available in the home, up to its maximum power rating of 11.5 kW.

Drive+ is designed to pair with any generation of SPAN Panel in order to leverage whole-home intelligence and get unique benefits like dynamic charging, charging with solar*, scheduled time-of-use charging, and more. Drive+ can be purchased and installed without a smart panel with SPAN Energy Intelligence, but you won't get all the features and benefits.

*Charge with solar is available now for SPAN Panel MAIN 32, coming in 2027 for all other SPAN Panels.

Today, each SPAN Panel or Eaton Smart Panel supports full functionality for one Drive+ EV charger which can be used to charge any number of EVs. Additional Drive+ chargers can be installed on the same panel with ordinary appliance monitoring and control capabilities but no dynamic rate charging.

Industry standards for vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home (V2X) functionality are still in early stages. We are actively keeping an eye on the space and look forward to considering this functionality for the future.

Drive+ exceeds the charging rate of many other Level 2 EV chargers by leveraging the intelligence of SPAN Panel to dynamically ramp charging speeds up or down based on real-time household energy consumption.

Typical Level 2 EV charging solutions require an electrician to set a fixed maximum charging rate at the time of installation (based on worst-case peak demand scenarios). This can be limited to 24-40A (5.7-9.6 kW). Drive+ delivers up to 48A (11.5 kW) of power to your vehicle. If SPAN detects your home energy usage is nearing maximum total system capacity, Drive+ will temporarily lower the rate of charge until that extra power becomes available again for fast charging
