Energy Management System (EMS)
Every SPAN Panel comes pre-installed with PowerUp. PowerUp is an Energy Management System (EMS) that enables homeowners to install high-power electric upgrades like heat pumps, hot tubs, and EV chargers without exceeding their electrical service capacity.
Homeowners can set preferences for what PowerUp manages during peak-load events in the SPAN Home App, with minimal-to-no disruption experienced.
For more information and documentation on SPAN PowerUp visit the SPAN Tech Portal.
PowerUp operates automatically in the background when on-grid and off-grid. PowerUp uses the Firm Service Rating setpoint on-grid to manage large electrical loads by throttling power to select large loads to avoid exceeding NEC service setpoints. When off-grid, PowerUp uses the Backup Overload Protection set point to dynamically adjust which circuits stay on to avoid battery overloads.
SPAN’s custom PowerUp Project Planner can be used to evaluate code compliance and customer experience when using PowerUp and determine feasibility for avoiding an electrical service upgrade.
